When to Replace Your Water Heater

If your current heater is leaking, produces insufficiently hot water, or the system is making weird noises, your water heater may need to be repaired, or even replaced. Although it may be difficult to determine when your water heater needs replacing, our Providence water heater installation experts can determine if the problems with your current water heater require you to get a new one.

Some signs that may indicate that you need a new water heater include:

• Age: Water heaters eventually require constant repairs and break down. Most water heaters last between 8-12 years.
• Frequent Repairs: If your water heater has required major repair twice in the last year, you may need a new water heater.
• Rust: Water heaters usually can’t be repaired if they start to rust from the inside. If your hot water has a rusty color, it indicates the anode rod inside of the tank is going bad.
• Rumbling Noises: If you hear rumbling or banging noises inside your water heater, sediment has built up at the bottom of your tank. The hard layer of sediment occasionally breaks into pieces, which makes banging noises. Sediment buildup eventually makes the water heater tank brittle and prone to leaking or overheating.
